1.1.D.13 Daily fees (residential aged care)

Usage

These definitions apply to all payments.

Definition: basic daily fee

All residents in aged care homes can be asked to pay a basic daily fee as a contribution towards accommodation costs and living expenses, like meals, cleaning, laundry, heating and cooling.

From 20 September 2009, aged care residents will have their rate of basic daily fees set according to 4 categories. These are:

  • standard rate,
  • phased rate,
  • protected rate,
  • non-standard rate.

DoHA will advise each resident which rate is applicable to them.

Definition: income test fee

Residents may be asked to pay an income tested fee in addition to the daily fee, depending on their income and level of care they require.

Definition: amount of fees

Centrelink will assess a person's income so that DoHA can establish the fees that will apply.

The Australian Government sets the maximum level of the daily fees.

Daily care fees and income tested fees are distinct from the periodic accommodation bond or accommodation charge.

For further information on daily fees, visit the DoHA website or contact DoHA on freecall 1800 020 103.
