For the purpose of assessing HCC only CA (child), substantially more care and attention means at least 14 hours per week of additional care. The assessment is based on the additional care and attention required by the child because of the disability, and is measured in hours per day or week.
The 14 hours rule is a simple and objective assessment process which uses information provided by the child's THP (1.1.T.170) to determine the amount of care and attention the child requires.
Explanation: The 14 hours rule removes the need for the parent/carer to describe the disability or level of care that is provided, and means the delegate does not have to make a judgement based on that description. Generally the parent or carer would have discussed the care and attention requirements with the THP before lodging the claim.
