Closing the Gap is a commitment by all Australian governments to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians, and in particular provide a better future for Indigenous children.
Closing the Gap in the Northern Territory aims to enhance services to Indigenous communities in relation to the protection of vulnerable children, provision of law and order, and delivery of quality education and health services. Information on support services for Indigenous communities and initiatives in specific regions, including Alice Springs Transformation Plan and Remote Service Delivery. Programs and services for Indigenous families, mothers, children and youth. The Department is working with other Commonwealth agencies, state, territory and local governments and Indigenous communities to provide safe, healthy and sustainable housing for Indigenous people. Programs and services relating to Indigenous land rights and native title Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representative bodies including the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples, and leadership programs for strengthening leadership capacity of Indigenous men and women.
