The Jobless Families Trial was one of the measures announced as part of the 2011-12 Federal Budget package, Building Australia's Future Workforce. The trial provides new services, opportunities and responsibilities to boost the job readiness, child wellbeing and functioning of families with young children in select locations. Jobless families are supported to address pre-vocational barriers so that they can improve their work readiness once their youngest child starts school. In addition, parents of jobless families will improve their linkages with locally available services to support their children in preschool and other early childhood activities designed to improve their preparation for school.
Eligibility for participation in the trial is determined by parents meeting the following criteria:
