3.2.1.30 Waiting Periods for NSA

Which periods apply to NSA?

The following waiting periods (section 23(1)-'waiting period') may apply to people who claim NSA:

  • liquid assets waiting period,
  • ordinary waiting period,
  • newly arrived resident's waiting period (1.1.N.70), AND
  • breach penalty, non-payment periods.

 

A RapidConnect non-payment period also may apply.

 

The SWPP and IMP also apply to NSA. The waiting and non-payment periods are explained in the referenced topics.

Claimants from New Zealand

Claimants from New Zealand who entered Australia after 1 February 2000 are subject to a 104 week NARWP unless they have been an Australian resident and in Australia for a period of, or periods totalling 104 weeks. Those New Zealand claimants who were Australian residents on 1 February 2000 continue to be subject to a 6 months special waiting period, starting from the date of their most recent arrival in Australia, unless they have been an Australian resident (section 7(2)) for the 12 months immediately preceding their claim.
