3.2.9.70 Suitable Activity - Full-Time Work for the Dole

Summary

Full-time WFD is a suitable activity. It can be undertaken to meet a Work Experience Activity requirement of 1100 hours, to meet an Intensive Activity requirement of 260 hours, or as a Compliance Activity requirement of 200 hours over 8 weeks. Full-time WFD opportunities as a Work Experience Activity should be made available where employment services providers consider it appropriate for a job seeker to undertake a more intensive work experience placement.

Eligibility

Job seekers can be referred to full-time WFD if their employment services provider considers it of benefit to them to undertake a more intensive work experience placement.

Full-time WFD is a more intensive form of WFD activity, and job seekers can be placed in one or more standard WFD activities to make up their weekly hours, participating alongside other WFD job seekers who may not be participating on a full-time basis.

Principal carer parents who have part-time participation requirements and people with partial work capacity are not eligible for full-time WFD.

Concurrent work experience activity

Job seekers can undertake other Work Experience Activities concurrently with full-time WFD. However, these additional activities will not contribute to meeting the job seeker's Work Experience Activity Requirement.

Structured training & full-time WFD

Job seekers may undertake either accredited or non-accredited structured training as part of their full-time WFD activity, but it will not reduce a job seeker's overall Work Experience Activity Requirement. Accredited and non-accredited structured training undertaken as part of their full-time WFD activity, may count towards the job seeker's Work Experience Activity Requirement.

Example: Sarah has a Work Experience Activity requirement in the Work Experience Phase and is undertaking full-time WFD and a component of structured training. The hours Sarah completes in structured training do not count towards meeting her 1100 hour full-time WFD requirement. However, Sarah completes 80 hours in structured training which leaves her 1020 hours in full-time WFD activity.

Supplement payment

Job seekers receiving income support who participate in full-time WFD activities are eligible to receive a supplement of $20.80 per fortnight to assist with the additional costs of participation. The supplement is taxable, but is exempt from the income test.

The supplement is not paid on a pro-rata basis. The full payment is made for the fortnights in which the activity begins and ends, regardless of the actual number of participation hours completed in those fortnights. If a job seeker leaves a project without good reason, the supplement will cease to be paid from the first payday after the job seeker ends participation on the activity.

Act reference: SSAct section 28 Approved programs of work for income support payment, section 603AA(1) Relief from activity test-people 55 and over who are engaged in work, section 607B Newstart Employment Pathway Plan-requirement to participate in an approved programme of work, section 551 Allowance not payable because of repeated or more serious failure, section 629 Allowance not payable because of repeated or more serious failure
