3.2.9.120 Suitable Activity - Brokered or Unpaid Work Experience Placement Activities

Summary

An Unpaid Work Experience Placement (UWEP) is a voluntary short-term placement (maximum of 4 weeks) with a host organisation which allows a participant to gain specific vocational skills and experience a work-like environment. UWEP should have a likelihood of an outcome of sustainable paid employment.

UWEP is not employment or training, an apprenticeship or other similar scheme.

Job seekers who are fully eligible for employment services may undertake a UWEP activity at any time during their stream services, provided they meet the qualifying criteria or to meet a job seeker's Work Experience Activity requirement in the Work Experience Phase.

UWEP placements should be additional to the existing work requirements of the host organisation and must not reduce or replace any existing paid workers, including casual or part-time workers. In addition, UWEP must not reduce existing paid workers hours of work including casual or part-time workers.

Length of placements

UWEPs must be between 5 days (minimum) and 4 weeks (maximum).

Hours of participation

UWEP can be between a minimum of 8 hours per week and a maximum of 50 hours per fortnight. The actual number of hours the job seeker will participate in a placement on any given day is based on the job seeker's capacity at the time of the UWEP and the host organisation's requirements.
