a. Communication / Information

"Our Communications are accessible"

All FaHCSIA internal and external communications and provisions of information will take into account the specific needs of people with disability and, where possible, will be provided in alternative formats.

Print Accessibility

FaHCSIA meets accessibility standards for the production of all internal and external printed material.

  • Provide all communications employees with “Better Information and Communication Practicesâ€ (currently on Commonwealth Disability Strategy (CDS) website).
  • Provide all communications employees with “Factsheet 5 â€" Inclusive Language Tipsâ€ (currently on CDS website).
  • Provide access to all SES and EL2 employees of “Factsheet 5 â€" Inclusive Language Tipsâ€ (currently on CDS website).

 

NB: Specific font and minimum size are already in place for all printed publications.

Online Accessibility

All online materials are designed in reference to relevant accessibility standards (i.e., Triple A W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

  • Where practical ensure a high level of compliance with accessibility standards for all online publishing.

Alternative Format Protocols

FaHCSIA has established protocols for requesting alternative formats and providing alternative formats within reasonable time frames.  These protocols are communicated to all employees.

  • Ensure 'Factsheet 4' Making information about your programs and services accessible to all Australians' (currently CDS website) is available electronically to all employees.
  • Ensure the Disability Access Coordinator (DAC) and Communications employees are aware of 'Register of providers of information in accessible formats' (currently on CDS website).

Alternative Format Request Documentation

Requests for alternative formats are documented and their outcomes, particularly timeframes for providing materials, are tracked for quality assurance and statistical data collection with regard to the needs of FaHCSIA's workforce.

b. Physical Access

"Our physical environments are accessible"

All FaHCSIA workplace, amenities, facilities, and work environments will be safe and accessible for people with disability.

Familiarity with Standards

Individuals responsible for the purchase, lease, upgrading or maintenance of FaHCSIA facilities are familiar with the latest disability access standards.

  • All facilities management employees have a copy of 'Better Physical Access' (currently on CDS website).
  • Compliance with relevant Building Codes; Australian Standards and the provisions under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992).

Awareness of Advisors and Auditors

Individuals responsible for the purchase, lease, upgrading or maintenance of FaHCSIA facilities are aware of disability access advisors and/or auditors who can be called on for specific access advice.

  • Assemble a list of relevant access advisors and auditors who can be called on for specific access advice.
  • Provide this list to the DAC and all employees in facilities management.
