Review of Carer Payment (child)

On 7 February 2008, the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs announced the release of the Carer Payment (child) Review Report - Carer Payment (child): A New Approach. The Review examined the eligibility criteria for Carer Payment (child) and the effectiveness of the payment in providing a safety net for children with profound disabilities and severe medical conditions.

The Review was conducted by an independent Taskforce, chaired by Mr Anthony Blunn AO.

To complement the Taskforce report, a Statistical Compendium providing a statistical summary of the population of children with disability and their carers in Australia has been produced.

Carers Storybook

Around 4,000 carers described their experiences in the submissions to the Carer Payment (child) Review Taskforce in 2007. To recognise the lives of carers, the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs commissioned The Carers Storybook, which includes 19 stories of people who provide care for children with severe disabilities and medical conditions. The Storybook was inspired by and is dedicated to all those families who shared their moving and powerful stories through these submissions.
