Estimates of the costs of children in Australian families, 1993-94

Policy Research Paper 3 / National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling. March 1999

The purpose of this study was to estimate the average costs of children in Australian two-parent families, where the cost of children were defined as parental expenditures on children up to 17 years of age. The level of expenditure was determined by comparing the expenditures of couple families with and without children at the same material standard of living.
