An overview of how child support schemes operate in selected other countries in terms of government assistance and interaction with family law A paper seeking to define the costs of children and child rearing in Australia This report estimates the costs of children in Australia in 2005-06. Costs are defined as the additional expenditure that families with children incur, when compared to families with an equivalent living standard but without children This report compares the 2005 demographic, education, labour market and economic situation to the 1980s when the Child Support Scheme was implemented This paper presents the costs of raising children in Australia using the budget standards methodology (basket of goods approach). The work is based upon and extends earlier costs of children research.
