The Australian Government is committed to advancing constitutional recognition of Indigenous people as a significant step towards building an Australia based on strong relationships and mutual respect between Indigenous and other Australians.
In December 2010 the Government established an Expert Panel to lead broad consultations throughout 2011, that will culminate in a report and recommendations to Government in December 2011.
